Simple Edge-to-Edge Designs

Yellow Brick Road
Pieced by: Karen Sutton

Design: Stipple

An edge-to-edge design is one that (as it sounds) has the same design all over the quilt -- top to bottom, side to side. This is my most cost effective quilting option and starts at $.015 per square inch.

Design: Flower Pano

An all over (sometimes also called "Pano", "Panto" or "Pantograph") design can be very obvious such as the above stipple, or by using a thread that blends in with the background, noticable only when you look closely.

On Jan's bunny quilt, I used a very light yellow thread with the flower design you see in the lower right corner. The quilting enhances without taking away from the lovely piecing and bunny pattern. I also custom made a bunny design that runs around the border and put another flower design in the corners.

A quilt like this would cost around .015 per square inch for the interior portion plus $10 for the border/corners. Of course this also could have been done at the lower price with just the all over design - just because your quilt has a border doesn't mean you have to have a separate design in it.
