Custom Designs

A custom design is one that requires special handling -- it can be anything from differing patterns in various blocks to hand-guided machine quilting. The pricing varies widely on this because I need to figure out how much time it will take and depends upon the complexity of the quilting option. You can figure that a custom design will be upwards of double the cost of a simple edge-to-edge.

Laurel Burch "Horses"
Pieced by: Linda Partridge

Design: Custom

The inner panel of this quilt was free motion. The outer nine borders were done individually. (click on the photo for more close-ups of this quilt)

A quilt like this would cost around .03 per square inch plus additional charges for the borders (more than one border costs $10 each).

Autumn Wall hangings
Pieced by: Jan Martin

Design: Custom Free Motion and E2E

The inner panels of these wall hangings were free-motion quilted. The pieced outer portions were treated as if they were an edge-to-edge with the center trimmed out. The inner borders also had their own border designs.

A quilt like this would cost around .03 per square inch. Typically on something this small I would break the price down and only charge the custom charge on the inner panel size and then normal/all over or border charges for the outer.

Military Vehicles / Camouflage
Pieced by: Marcia Crawford

Design: E2E with Custom created pattern/design

While the design on this quilt was an edge-to-edge, I didn't have any design which fit what the customer wanted. She was looking for a design that had military vehicles (Hummer, etc.). So I created the e2e design that had a tank and a Hummer as well as mimicking the camouflage I also created the words "Top Secret" for the top border.

While the quilting would cost around .015 per square inch, I typically charge about $35.00 additional to create a custom design -- depending on complexity of course.

Doilies
Pieced by: Ella Barnett

Design: Custom Blocks

This quilt required placement of the design in each triangle. In addition the triangles with the doily halves needs to be trimmed out to make sure the stitching didn't go over the doily itself. The design also required editing to remove the center section to allow for the trimming. Ella also had a feather design in the outer border.

Because of the time-consuming nature of this and the editing of an existing computerized design, a quilt of this nature would run around .05 a square inch.

Firefighter
Pieced by: Suzanne Beard

Design: Custom E2E

Another custom-created design. The customer wanted a firefighter and/or fire on her quilt and I didn't like any of the ones I found, so created my own.

The edge-to-edge was standard quilting charge of .015 per square inch, but the design was an additional $35.00 to create.
